Dogdoku rules in four lines
- One per row. Each horizontal line holds exactly one puppy.
- One per column. Each vertical line holds exactly one puppy.
- One per colour. Each coloured area holds exactly one puppy.
- No touching. Two puppies may not sit next to each other, diagonals included.
Choose Place puppy, Mark empty or Erase, then tap a square. Tapping again with the same marking tool removes that mark. Right-click to toggle an X. Keyboard: arrow keys move; C or P places a puppy, X marks empty, E or Backspace clears, H opens a Hint, and U or Ctrl/Cmd+Z undoes a move.
How to start a board
Look for the smallest coloured area first. If a colour fits inside one row, its puppy must be in that row, so every other square of that row can be marked X. The same works for columns. Each X you add shrinks the other colours, which usually reveals the next forced square.
When you place a puppy, mark its row, its column, the rest of its colour and the eight squares around it. That cleanup is most of the game; the clever moves only appear once the board is tidy.
Journey, daily challenge and free practice
Journey: 100 numbered levels in ten chapters, from 5 × 5 Puppy School to 9 × 9 Top Dog. Chapters introduce larger boards with warm-ups before harder techniques. Daily challenge: one fixed 6 × 6 board for everyone, new at midnight UTC. Free practice: choose a size from 5 × 5 to 9 × 9 and a difficulty, then use New puzzle for another board. Easy is available through 7 × 7; larger boards offer Medium and Hard.
Every board has exactly one solution, checked by our solver before it reaches you. Your progress, including which levels you have solved, is saved in this browser with no account needed. You can link straight to a level, for example level 47.
Dogdoku, Meowdoku and RoyalMeowdoku share the same rules
Dog puzzles, cat puzzles and the crown puzzle popularised by LinkedIn all use the same placement rules. If you enjoy this board, try the cat journey on our homepage with 300 levels, or the RoyalMeowdoku with crowned kittens. The solving tips apply to all three.
Dogdoku questions
Is this the Dogdoku app?
No. Whiskerdoku is an independent website. Several mobile apps use the Dogdoku name; we are not affiliated with any of them. Our boards are generated and checked by us.
Is it free?
Yes. Every board is free to play in the browser, with no download, account or forced ads between levels.
Does every puzzle have one answer?
Yes. Each board is checked by a solver that confirms exactly one valid arrangement exists before you see it.
Why can two puppies not touch diagonally?
The no-touching rule covers all eight neighbouring squares. It is what makes small colours powerful: one puppy rules out a 3 × 3 block around it.
